About Rob Maszkowski

I have worked in New Zealand defence since 2019, first inside a prime contractor and then as a consultant.

At Babcock International I was Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement Manager, then Performance and Risk Manager, on the Maritime Fleet Sustainment Service Agreement with the New Zealand Defence Force. I was part of the team that developed that contract and led the development of its Performance and Risk Management Plans. I ran the continuous improvement programme at the Maritime Engineering Support Team, which accounted for more than 60% of NZDF's total cost savings from continuous improvement activity in 2019-2020 and was a finalist in the 2021 New Zealand Business Best Practice Awards. I also led audits and root cause investigations across the sustainment process for the Royal New Zealand Navy fleet.

I have also worked with defence primes in New Zealand and helped design NZDIA's Defence Ready programme. In Australia, I worked on bids for the Royal Australian Navy's Regional Maintenance Provider contracts in Cairns and Darwin (RMP-NE and RMP-N), and on an improvement project for the Hydrographic Systems Program Office in Cairns.

I know what Defence expects of its suppliers because I have had to meet those expectations myself. I now offer that experience to overseas companies entering the New Zealand market, and to New Zealand businesses preparing to work with Defence or looking for customers overseas.

FAQs

What is defence readiness?

Having the registrations, systems and security arrangements in place that Defence expects before you bid for work. What you need depends on the type of work. The Working with Defence page sets it out.

How do you assess readiness?

Through a half-day or full-day assessment on site, measured against what Defence will expect for the work you want to do. You get a written action plan showing what is in place, what is missing and what to do about each gap.

Can you help with international defence and space markets?

Yes. New Zealand businesses are introduced to overseas defence and space partners, customers and opportunities.

What is a New Zealand Industry Capability Plan?

A plan that large overseas suppliers bidding for New Zealand defence contracts will need, setting out how they will work with New Zealand businesses. It is a requirement under the government's Defence Industry Strategy. Help with preparing one is part of the NZ Market Entry service.

Who is this service for?

Two groups: overseas defence and space companies that want to enter the New Zealand market or need a local presence here, and New Zealand businesses that want to work with NZ Defence or sell to defence and space customers overseas.
